Italy travel restriction from the US is an important update that US travelers should be aware of. Many reasons why you might want to visit Italy start from vacation, business, study, family or else in this Covid situation. It is important to know what the latest restrictions are. Italy has confirmed its current case of Covid.

The CDC has issued a travel health notice for Italy due to Covid. Currently, Italy is included in the Level 4 category, which means the level of the spread of Covid in Italy is very high at this time. US travelers are advised to avoid traveling to Italy. Not only the CDC, the State Department also issued the same advice for Americans who want to travel to Italy.

Mapping the spread of Covid in Italy is divided according to the following warnings:

  • White means the risk of contracting Covid is very low
  • Yellow means that the risk of contracting Covid is low
  • Orange means the risk of contracting Covid is high
  • Red means the risk of contracting Covid is very high

Italy adopted the policy of the European Medicines Agency (EMA) which recognizes the CDC vaccine card (white color card) equivalent to the Green Pass which is enforced in Italy.

If you have not been vaccinated and need to travel to Italy, you can provide a negative Covid PCR test result that is valid 48 hours in advance.

If you have recently recovered from Covid, you may use a medical certificate issued by a competent United States authority to confirm your Covid recovery within the previous 6 months. Such certificates are accepted in Italian, English, Spanish, French in digital or copy written form.

Green Pass Card Italy

The next important thing in Italy travel restriction from US is the application of the Green Pass in the Italian government’s Covid handling policy.

The “Super” Green Pass is only given to people who have been fully vaccinated or recovered from Covid.

Everyone can continue to hold the “Basic” Green Pass by showing a Negative Covid Test result valid in 48 hours.

From January 10, 2022 to March 31, 2022, the Super Green Pass is required for hotel stays, use of all public transportation including flights and high-speed trains.

The majority of social activities such as going to museums, indoor and outdoor dining and in person services, theater, and sporting/entertainment events will only be permitted for Super Green Pass holders. The Green Pass is valid for 6 months starting February 1, 2022.

Mandatory Mask

The next Italy travel restriction from US you need to know is mask regulation. From 25 December 2021 to 31 January 2022 the use of masks outdoors is mandatory in all regions of Italy. From 25 December 2021 to 31 March 2022, the use of the more protective FFP2/KN95 masks is required to participate in all indoor and outdoor cultural and recreational events, and in the use of all transportation. If you hate to wear mask, better postpone your travel to Italy.
