At first I wasn’t really sure whether to go to Lufkin Zoo or not. The zoo was chosen because I previously visited Boykin Spring Recreation, then got the Hampton Inn & Suites hotel in Lufkin for staying the night. Since I am in Lufkin with the children, there is no harm in stopping by at the Lufkin Zoo. The name is Ellen Trout Zoo located at the city of Lufkin, Texas.

What’s the atmosphere like at Lufkin Zoo?
I’ve been to the Houston Zoo before. Indeed Lufkin zoo is not as big as the Houston zoo, but there is something better that I really feel. The experience offered is different by the Lufkin zoo with a closer proximity to the animals that are there.
For some reason, the animals at Lufkin Zoo are more active than the Houston Zoo (when I came). Don’t get me wrong, I’m an annual member of the Houston Zoo, but from my several visits I’ve always seen sleeping animals (and parking is a nightmare at the Houston Zoo).
The layout of the Lufkin Zoo is not as big as the Houston Zoo but that is an advantage, I can see the animals closer. And what’s more stunning, they are active. I did this visit in early March, maybe this is the right time. One thing memorable is the peacocks that roam freely in the Lufkin zoo. Children enjoy their time there.
