Lost Baggage Compensation

Lost baggage compensation is something a traveler do not want to know for. Yet, if this situation happens, you are going to need all resource you can have and stay calm. Here are the steps to understand in mitigating the lost baggage.

Damage Baggage

At the time you realize your baggage smashed or torn, the airline company normally pay for repairs. If repairs can’t be done, a settlement negotiation may be conducted. The same applies for your stuff inside it. Airline company may decline to recompense for damaged due to the fragile nature of the damaged goods / inadequate packing, rather than the airline’s clumsy handling.

In responding the possibility of lost baggage compensation, airlines may also deny to give you money for your broken stuff inside the bag when there’s no proof of external damage to the baggage. Yet airlines normally don’t disclaim obligation for fragile items packed in its original factory plastered carton, a cardboard mailing tube, or other container made for shipping and filled with protective padding material.

At the time you are checking in, airline staff should inform you if they think your baggage or package may not hold the travel intact. Before receiving a questionable goods, they will inquiry you to sign a statement in which you comply to observe it at your own risk. But even if you do sign this form, the airline might be conceivable for damage if it is incurred by its own carelessness shown by external damage to the baggage or package.

Delayed Baggage

Lost baggage compensation is not applicable in delayed baggage condition, to some extent. If your baggage not arrives at the desired destination, don’t panic. The airlines have very advanced systems that investigate about 98% of the bags they misplace and retrieve them to their owners within hours. In many cases they will bear reasonable cost you incur while they search your missing baggage. You and the airline may have different opinion of what’s reasonable, nevertheless, and the sum they will compensate is subject to negotiation.

If your bags don’t arrive at the conveyor belt, claim this to the airline before you leave the airport. Demand that they complete a form and submit you a copy, even if they say the bag is scheduled on the next flight. If the form doesn’t include the name of the staff who filled it out, ask for it. Retrieve an appropriate contact number for following up (not the Reservations contact number). Once you retrieve you baggage with no further damage, lost baggage compensation may not be applicable.

Don’t assume that the airline will send the bag without fee when it is found; ask them about this. Most carriers set instructions for their airport staff that enable them to disburse some money at the airport for emergency procures.

The amount relies on whether or not you’re far from home and how long it takes to track down your bags and send them back to you. If the airline does not arrange you a cash advance, it may still reimburse you later for the procures of necessities. Talk with the airlines the types of materials that would be reimbursable, and retain all receipts.
