How to Get Indonesian Citizenship for Adults
For an adult, a foreign citizen can get Indonesian citizenship with the following conditions:
- Already 18 years old or already married
- When applying, you have been in Indonesia for at least 5 consecutive years or 10 non-consecutive years.
- Able to speak Indonesian and recognize Pancasila (the five priciples) and the 1945 Constitution
- Never been sentenced for committing a criminal offense punishable by a sentence of 1 year or more
- Have a steady income job
- Pay citizenship fees
How to apply for Indonesian citizenship:
- The applicant makes a written application in Indonesian with a stamp duty addressed to the President through the Minister (Minister of Law and Human Rights/Menteri Hukum dan HAM)
- The Minister will provide consideration to the President at least 3 months after the application is received.
- If the application is accepted, the applicant will receive a Presidential Decree
- If the application is rejected, the applicant will receive an explanation of the rejection.
- Beware if the applicant is obliged to make promises in front of the appointed official. If the applicant does not make a pledge of allegiance according to the schedule determined, the Presidential Decree is null and void.
- After making the pledge, the applicant submits the immigration documents to the immigration office within 14 days after taking the oath.
- The acquisition of Indonesian citizenship will be announced by the Minister.
