Google AdSense Cancelled My Account: What Happened and How to Get It Back

You wake up, grab your coffee, and log into your AdSense account—only to see the dreaded message:

“Your AdSense account has been disabled.”

Your heart sinks. Questions race through your mind:

  • Why did this happen?
  • Did I break a rule without knowing?
  • Can I get my account back?

If you’ve found yourself in this stressful situation, you’re not alone. Every year, countless publishers face AdSense account cancellations—sometimes unfairly, sometimes due to honest mistakes.

This guide will walk you through:
The most common reasons AdSense bans accounts
How to appeal (and possibly recover your account)
Alternative ad networks if AdSense won’t reinstate you
How to protect your account moving forward

Let’s dive in and turn this setback into a comeback.

Why Did Google AdSense Cancel My Account?

Google rarely gives detailed explanations, but these are the top reasons accounts get disabled:

1. Invalid Traffic or Click Fraud

  • What it means: Suspicious clicks (from bots, you clicking your own ads, or paid traffic).
  • Example: You shared your link in a “click-for-click” Facebook group.

2. Policy Violations

  • Prohibited content: Adult material, copyrighted content, hate speech, etc.
  • Misleading content: Fake news, scams, or “get rich quick” schemes.

3. Copyright Strikes

  • Using images/videos you don’t own (even “free” ones without proper licenses).

4. Multiple Accounts

  • You can only have one AdSense account per person (no creating a second one after a ban).

5. Lack of Original Content

  • Too much duplicate or AI-generated content without value.

💡 Note: Sometimes, AdSense bans accounts by mistake (like false bot traffic flags).

What to Do If AdSense Cancelled Your Account

Step 1: Check the Official Email

  • Google sends an email explaining the violation (check spam folder too).
  • Look for phrases like:
  • “Dangerous or derogatory content”
  • “Invalid traffic concerns”

Step 2: Submit an Appeal (The Right Way)

  1. Log in to your AdSense account.
  2. Click “Appeal Disabled Account.”
  3. Write a polite, professional appeal letter (template below).

📝 Appeal Letter Template:

Dear Google AdSense Team,

I was disappointed to learn my account was disabled for [reason from email]. I believe this may have been a mistake because [explain why—e.g., “I never clicked my own ads” or “All content is original”].

I’ve reviewed the AdSense policies and will ensure full compliance moving forward. Please reconsider reinstating my account.

Sincerely,
[Your Name]

Step 3: Wait (But Don’t Just Wait)

  • Google typically replies within 3-7 days.
  • While waiting:
  • Fix any policy violations (delete risky content).
  • Remove ads from your site (using another plugin).

What If Google Denies Your Appeal?

Unfortunately, Google rarely reverses bans—but you still have options:

1. Try Alternative Ad Networks

  • Mediavine (Requires 50k monthly sessions)
  • AdThrive (Lifestyle blogs, 100k pageviews/month)
  • Ezoic (Accepts smaller sites, uses AI optimization)
  • Affiliate Marketing (Amazon Associates, ShareASale)

2. Start Fresh (Carefully!)

  • Don’t create a new AdSense account (it’ll get banned too).
  • Instead, use a different monetization method (like sponsorships or digital products).

3. Move to a New Site (Last Resort)

  • If your domain is “blacklisted,” start a new website with original content.
  • Wait 6+ months before reapplying to AdSense.

How to Protect Your AdSense Account in the Future

Never click your own ads (even accidentally).
Avoid shady traffic sources (no paid clicks or bots).
Publish 100% original content (no plagiarism or AI spam).
Monitor your traffic (use Google Search Console for bot detection).

🔍 Pro Tip: If using WordPress, install an AdSense plugin (like Ad Inserter) to prevent accidental invalid clicks.

Don’t Give Up!

An AdSense ban feels crushing—but it’s not the end of your blogging journey. Many successful publishers bounced back by:

  • Switching to better ad networks (like Mediavine).
  • Focusing on affiliate marketing or digital products.
  • Building a loyal email list (so you’re not reliant on ads).

Hello Okto,

This is indeed something many do find themselves doing especially the issue of monetization.
Cluttering all their pages with ads with the believe that the more ads they have, the more more money they make. It doesn’t of course work in that way.

Hi Emmanuel,
I guess that’s how new blogger come into the trap of monetization. The lesser the better for sure. It is beneficial for both the blogger and the advertiser. Thanks for stopping by

Hello Okto,

I think most of mistakes are caused by enthusiasm or lack of awareness. Blog look does matters for first time visitors but when you have a large reader base then i think its the content that matters the most. Also a business oriented blog should be designed to draw traffic and make more sales.
